Sour spinach refers to a variety of leafy greens, most famously Gongura (also known as pulichakeerai, ambaadi, pitwaa, or kenaf leaves) in Southern India, which is prized for its tart flavor and high nutritional value. Other varieties include garden sorrel (Rumex vesicarious), often called khatti palak or chukka koora. These greens are rich in vitamins A, C, and folic acid, as well as iron, potassium, and fiber. They are used in many dishes, including dals, curries, soups, and chutneys, and can be pickled, blanched, or tempered.
